About Melissa Violet
Founder and Lead Tutor of Ocean Tutors
With more than a decade of experience as both a classroom teacher and private tutor, Melissa Violet is committed to helping students build confidence, strengthen foundational skills, and achieve lasting academic growth. She began her career at the University at Buffalo, where she tutored undergraduate students and managed an Educational Enrichment Services tutoring site. Melissa later taught English in Cali, Colombia through Volunteers Colombia, gaining valuable experience working with speakers of other languages. She has also taught SAT preparation classes, middle school English, and provided individualized reading support for elementary students.
After working with learners from a wide range of cultures, ages, and academic backgrounds, Melissa founded Ocean Tutors to create a warm, student-centered environment where every child feels seen, supported, and empowered. The Ocean Tutors approach draws on years of teaching experience and emphasizes patience, encouragement, and steady, meaningful progress.
At Ocean Tutors, students are encouraged to learn at a pace that feels natural and sustainable—growing in confidence with the same quiet, dependable rhythm as the ocean.
